Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they mean for your site?
A password-protected directory or area is a folder that could be accessed only if a username and a password are provided, so no unauthorized individuals could view its content. This feature can be used for the main folder of a specific site or exclusively for a specific subfolder based on your requirements. For instance, if you are creating a new website and you do not want people to see it before it's ready, you may want to limit the access to it completely, while if you need only some individuals to be able to access certain files, you could password-protect only a specific folder, while the remaining portion of the Internet site could be seen by anyone. In any case, a “403 Forbidden” error page shall appear in the event that the login details the visitor enters aren't accurate. Even a direct link to a file will not work provided any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Setting up a password-protected area will take merely a few clicks and a few seconds if you host your Internet sites in a
cloud hosting account with us. You'll not need to do anything challenging - you'll have to select a domain/subdomain, to pick which folder under it should be secured, and then to input the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. In case a number of individuals need their own login credentials, there will not be a problem to make a number of different usernames with access to the same folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you will always know where this option is enabled. If you want to deactivate the protection function for any folder, you can disable it from the same exact section of the CP in which you have enabled it.
